From liberalization to a societal responsible regulation of infrastructures

This conference explores how important societal objectives can be taken into account in the regulation of infrastructures in a liberalized market setting and how these objectives may be translated into incentives for core decision makers in infrastructure industries. Het doel van de cursus “Presentatie Vormgeving” is om de cursisten zoveel mogelijk te leren van de programma’s Photoshop, InDesign en Illustrator afkomstig uit Adobe Creative Suite. De basis van elk van de drie programma’s wordt tijdens de lessen uitgelegd zodat de cursisten met weinig Adobe-ervaring een stevige basis krijgen. Degenen met wat meer ervaring komen ook zeker aan hun trekken omdat het tempo van de cursus aardig hoog is. Het is echter geen cursus voor echte gevorderden.

De cursus is een praktische cursus, gericht op wat studenten/medewerkers nodig hebben om (presentatie)posters, (studie)verslagen, beeldcollages en portfolio’s te kunnen maken. De docent biedt tijdens de vijf lessen ook hulp op maat bij projecten die men onderhanden heeft.

MediaEval is a benchmarking initiative dedicated to evaluating new algorithms for multimedia access and retrieval.

It attracts participants who are interested in multimodal approaches to multimedia involving, e.g., speech recognition, multimedia content analysis, user-contributed information (tags, tweets), viewer affective response, social networks, temporal and geo-coordinates. MediaEval was established in 2008 as VideoCLEF, a track of CLEF, and in 2010 became an independent benchmarking initiative.

OpenFOAM is a C++ toolbox for the customisation and extension of numerical solvers for continuum mechanics problems, including computational fluid dynamics (CFD). It comes with a growing collection of pre-written solvers applicable to a wide range of problems. It is produced by the UK company OpenCFD Ltd. and is released as open source under the GPL.

There is a rapidly growing interest and development of OpenFOAM at universities, research institutes, and industries. It is becoming an important platform for smooth and rapid transition of ideas, methods, and software developed at universities to research institutes and industries. Since it is open source all details of the used methods are available. Many companies are considering OpenFOAM as a cheap and flexible alternative to commercial CFD packages.

The growing interest in the Netherlands has led to an initiative for creating a Dutch OpenFOAM users group. The group is intended for the exchange of experience and expertise among OpenFOAM users in the Netherlands.

Multimedia content has become ubiquitous on the web, creating new challenges for indexing, access, search and retrieval. At the same time, much of this content is made available on content sharing websites such as YouTube or Flickr, or shared on social networks like Facebook.

In such environments, the content is usually accompanied with metadata, tags, ratings, comments, information about the uploader and their social network, etc. Analysis of these "social media" shows a great potential in improving the performance of traditional multimedia information analysis/retrieval approaches by bridging the semantic gap between the "objective" multimedia content analysis and "subjective" users' needs and impressions. The integration of these aspects however is non-trivial and has created a vibrant, interdisciplinary field of research.

Based on the great success of its previous edition in Interlaken, Switzerland, the 2nd Summer School on Social Media Retrieval (S3MR) aims at bringing together young researchers from neighbouring disciplines, offering lectures delivered by experts from academia and industry providing a clear and in-depth summary of state-of-the-art research in social media retrieval.

Sinds 1980 is Ter Laak Orchids actief in de orchideeën. Onze nieuwe moderne potplantenkwekerij, gevestigd aan de Middenzwet 23 in Wateringen, heeft een omvang van 78.500 m2. De extra teeltlaag van 16.500 m2 boven de verwerkingsruimte, zorgt voor een meervoudige ruimtebenutting. Op jaarbasis produceren wij hier vier miljoen Phalaenopsis planten van de potmaat 12 cm. Daarnaast hebben wij een tweede locatie van 45.000 m2 aan de Middenzwet 7 in Wateringen in gebruik.

Met het maken van drie digitale handafdrukken, waaronder die van minister Maxime Verhagen, werd op maandagmiddag 16 mei 2011 het YES!Delft Incubatorgebouw officieel geopend. De minister van Economische Zaken, Landbouw en Innovatie sprak zijn waardering uit voor wat hij noemt “deze broedplaats voor innovatief technotalent”. De inspirerende omgeving die YES!Delft biedt, is volgens hem erg belangrijk voor de ontwikkeling van nieuwe initiatieven.

De officiële opening van het Incubatorgebouw was het hoogtepunt van het Network Event 2011 van YES!Delft. De bijeenkomst Welcome to the Future!, onder leiding van Jan Douwe Kroeske, ving aan met een welkomstwoord door wethouder en YES!Delft-bestuurslid Pieter Guldemond. Hij meldde trots dat het ondernemerscentrum sinds de oprichting in 2005 al bijna honderd bedrijven heeft ondersteund en dat dit 470 directe banen en 1100 banen in de regio heeft opgeleverd.

De partners in ACE hebben naar buiten één gezicht, coördineren huidige activiteiten met elkaar, en ontwikkelen nieuwe activiteiten samen. De Gemeente Amsterdam, de Kamer van Koophandel Amsterdam en de Kenniskring Amsterdam steunen deze volgende stap in de samenwerking van harte.

More than 200 people visited the sixth edition of the NBIC conference, April 19-20. The plenary programme included keynote lectures, workshops and several competitions.

Satellite meetings were organised by the PhD students network RSG Netherlands, the BioInformatics Industrial User Platform (BIUP) and the Netherlands Society on Biomolecular Modelling (NSBM). All these groups together created a lively atmosphere, inside (and outside) the conference venue 'De Werelt' in Lunteren.

In Nederland benoemden zij 9 topsectoren, daar zijn chemie en life-science er twee van. Een voorbeeld waarbij science en business hand in hand gaan is het project UltraSense NMR. Binnen dit project kan met innovatieve analysetechnologie bijvoorbeeld prostaatkanker (de meest voorkomende vorm van kanker bij mannen) in een vroeg stadium worden gediagnosticeerd. The new golden era of multi-core processors offers a diversity of concurrent architectures to the application programmer -- clusters of symmetric multiprocessors, heterogeneous accelerators (such as the Cell, GPGPUs), large core-count integrated machines (such as the IBM Blue Gene), and multiple levels of parallelism (multi-threaded multi-cores, such as the newer PowerPC and Intel architectures, or distributed multiprocessors like the Cray MTA).

The challenge for these new architectures is to develop a suitable and robust programming model. The Partitioned Global Address Space (PGAS) programming model has already attracted considerable attention, particularly in the High Performance Computing space, because it combines the convenience of globally addressable memory with the locality control needed for scalability.

De OWee is de algemene introductie voor alle aankomende studenten die in Delft gaan studeren. In vijf dagen leren meer dan 2100 nieuwe studenten alles wat je nodig hebt voor een succesvolle studententijd.

Voor de OWee regelt aanmelder elk jaar de inschrijvingen en betalingen van aankomende studenten. Daarnaast worden ook de inschrijvingen voor mentoren en studentenhuizen voor slaapplekken ondersteund door aanmelder.

Deze vragen beantwoordt SenterNovem in de bio-energie-conferentie 2009 in regionaal en lokaal klimaatbeleid. Op deze conferentie worden lokale overheden en marktpartijen gerelateerd aan bio-energie met elkaar in contact gebracht en er worden workshops georganiseerd om ervaring op te doen met praktijksituaties.
