FAIR in Action: Building a Sustainable FAIR Future in Life Science and Health ​

Join us for FAIR in Action, a national symposium bringing together data stewards, researchers, FAIR practitioners, and the wider Life Sciences & Health community to explore what FAIR implementation looks like in practice.  

FAIR - Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable - provides an important foundation for responsible research data management. Yet translating these principles into sustainable, everyday practice remains a challenge. To help address this, TDCC-LSH invited sixteen fellows from universities and university medical centres across the Netherlands to tackle real-world FAIR data challenges with the guidance of expert coaches.  

Over the past year, the fellows have worked on use cases spanning different aspects of FAIR, from developing practical tools and metadata standards to strengthening the national network of data professionals. The FAIR in action symposium marks the culmination of this year-long TDCC-LSH FAIR Fellowship and brings the fellows together with the wider community to share their experiences, lessons learned, and practical approaches to making FAIR part of routine research practice. 

The symposium programme reflects this spirit of exchange. Alongside a keynote presentation, the day will feature interactive breakout sessions, poster pitches, and plenary discussions exploring topics such as FAIR implementation in Life Sciences & Health, community building, metadata and interoperability, data stewardship, ethical considerations, and scaling FAIR approaches across organisations.  

Throughout the day, participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with peers working to translate FAIR principles into real-world research workflows and infrastructure - asking questions, comparing approaches, sharing experiences, and building connections that extend beyond the symposium. 

Whether you are taking your first steps with FAIR or are already actively advancing FAIR practices within your organisation, FAIR in Action offers a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge, discover practical approaches, and contribute to the conversation about the future of FAIR data stewardship in the Netherlands. 

The day concludes with a networking high tea, providing an informal setting to continue conversations, make new connections, and turn the day’s ideas into future collaborations.
