IPS Global Industry Summit location in Rotterdam: ss Rotterdam
The summit will be held on the ss Rotterdam. This ship came into service for Holland-America Line as their flagship in 1959. She is the largest passenger liner ever built in the Netherlands and is numbered among the most successful liners which ever sailed the seven seas. Since 2010 ss Rotterdam is permanently moored in Rotterdam.
The ss Rotterdam is since 2013 part of WestCord Hotels, a truly Dutch family company. A maritime conference location, hotel, restaurant and a touristic attraction in one; the ss Rotterdam is a unique and inspiring location. It is close to the center of the city, less than seven kilometers from Rotterdam The Hague Airport and only fifty kilometers from Amsterdam Airport. A floating venue with excellent accessibility for up to 3500 guests with 12 event rooms, 29 meeting rooms, 254 hotel rooms, 580 parking spaces and several restaurants and bars.
On 13 September, 1958, with a clearly spoken “I name you the Rotterdam and wish you a safe journey” Queen Juliana christened the new pride of the Dutch merchant fleet. Just under a year later, on Thursday 3 September, 1959, The ss Rotterdam departed on her maiden voyage from Rotterdam to New York. Among the guests aboard was then-crown princess Beatrix. The Rotterdam departed on her last transatlantic voyage from her home port in 1971. Since then the ship has been used exclusively for cruising, including dozens of world cruises, until the early part of this century.
