After-Conference Tour of Brussels
Saturday, March 30th
As an aftermath of the conference, the itinerary is thought to offer a view on some core sites of Brussels that relate to the matters of displacement, adaptation and multicultural encounters in Brussels, one of the most important destinations in Europe for migrants, refugees and expats.
The tour will be structured in two parts, starting at 10 a.m.
The first part (10 a.m.- 1 p.m.) is a short "grand tour" of the monumental Brussels.
The second part (2.30-4.30 p.m.) will be a tour of the neighbourhood of Sint-Jans Molenbeek, one of the most important locations in Europe for the matter of migration, multi-cultural communities and integration.
You are welcome to join the whole tour or part of it.
THE GRAND BRUSSELS
h. 10.00 a.m. - MEETING IN FRONT OF THE CONFERENCE VENUE
- Law Courts of Brussels and its stunning panoramic view over the city
- Cité Hellemans: the first social housing experiment in Belgium, built in 1915 and still conserving its original function
- Place Jeu de Balle and its flea market: a must for the weekend of Brussel's inhabitants, and a place of encounter of many cultures and memories
h 11.30 - 12 a.m. - Pause in Jeu de Balle: a coffee break in the local small cafes or some shopping time in Brussels flea market
- Brussels' old core: the Grand Place
- Stroll through Brussel's city centre: from the Bourse (Brussels' Stock Exchange), through Sainte Catherine until Brussel's Canal
h 1.30 p.m. - Syrian lunch break: Rue de Ribeaucourt, Sint-Jans Molenbeek.

DISPLACEMENT, DOMESTICITY AND INTEGRATION IN THE HEART OF BRUSSELS - THE NEIGHBOURHOOD OF SINT-JANS MOLENBEEK
h 2.30 - 4.30 p.m. - Tour of Sint-Jans Molenbeek with the association Foyer: the tour is hosted and guided by the association Foyer Molenbeek, a grassroot association operating in the neighbourhood since 50 years on the front of integration of migrants, education and empowerment. The tour includes a visit to the structures of the association, followed by a visit to the most important sites for the everyday life of the local migrant communities living in the neighbourhood.
