Assessing Pain in (Rare) Musculoskeletal Conditions
Debilitating pain is frequently experienced by patients across numerous musculoskeletal diseases. To date, the systematic investigation of pain, particularly in rare, musculoskeletal conditions (e.g., Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva), and similarly, diseases impacting pediatric populations (e.g., Polyarticular Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis) has been minimal or in some cases, completely lacking. This presentation will review the utility of multidisciplinary approaches centered around neuroimaging, which aim to elucidate mechanisms that facilitate a pain state in musculoskeletal conditions.
