About us

The analytical-chemistry groups at the two Amsterdam Universities (University of Amsterdam and Vrije Universiteit) form the Centre for Analytical Sciences Amsterdam (CASA). They work closely together on research and education, graduating about 60 MSc students and 5 PhD students each year. Together, the groups also organize the SCM series of conferences. A key focal point within CASA is the separation and mass-spectrometric characterization of macromolecules, ranging from synthetic polymers, to cellulose-derived polymers, peptides, proteins, and oligonucleotides. In the SCM meeting ideas and developments in this domain are discussed, augmented with research on all kinds of macromolecules and nanoparticles, using a diverse range of characterization methods.
