How can you go beyond simply sharing research results and build an impactful connection with society? This workshop will explore models that create more engaging relationships with citizens as science communication approaches shift. Through practical examples and interactive discussions, you'll gain valuable insights into how to relate to society and make that valuable connection with its members. Join us! (20/20)

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

In this workshop we will be exploring interdisciplinary collaboration in education research. The goal of education is for students to learn, and in order to understand what contributes to that learning, insights from various academic disciplines are essential—for example, educational science, educational psychology, sociology of education, and education economics

Another form of interdisciplinary collaboration is between educational researchers and educators: research and practice must be connected to truly understand what research is needed and what research findings mean in practice.

Together we will explore what each of these disciplines contributes to educational research and how to establish effective collaboration. What challenges might you encounter? What runs smoothly, and what requires more attention? (20/20)

Education research design from 3 perspectives: The reader, the journal, and the researcher

In this workshop we will take three perspectives on how to design an education study. We will start with the reader’s perspective: who will be the reader of your article? Is it teacher in the same topic that you teach? Or is it the administrator or policy maker? Or an educational researcher. The answer on this question has implications for the design of your study and the target journal.

We will, therefore, consider the journals’ perspective: why do journals (not) accept education research? We will discuss common reasons why journals do (not) accept education research.

In the third perspective (the researcher) we will work on how you can design your study to maximise the chance of acceptance. We will discuss questions like: How can you make a local educational problem or innovation relevant for a national or international audience?How can you align the problem with your theoretical framework and the study methods?

We will address these questions by using examples from education research practice. Participants currently planning or conducting education research projects will be invited to share their ideas and experiences.

This workshop welcomes both new and experienced researchers who want to think more purposefully about designing an education study. (13/20)
