Critical Conversations:
Are we doing a good job at developing good STEM professionals?
Disrupting Sameness in collaboration with the Inclusive Education Community
25-June-2026 | Teaching Lab
Inclusive Education is not just a moral imperative, but a powerful driver of social and academic success. It fosters a culture of belonging, promotes diversity of thought, and ensures that every learner has the opportunity to thrive. By embracing inclusive practices, we create environments where students and staff feel valued and empowered to reach their full potential.
The Inclusive Education Community is happy to invite you to a fourth interactive session! This edition will be hosted by the Disrupting Sameness project. While the Inclusive Education Community previously hosted a session on conflict in teams and the role for generative dialogue, this time we will experience the generative dialogue and explore how teaching and learning practices at TUD may unintentionally reinforce particular norms and expectations around STEM professionalism, and how we might together create space for a wider diversity of experiences and perspectives in STEM education.
the Workshop
Are TUD educators making “good” students, or are they shaping the STEM professionals the world needs? In this workshop, we will explore why those two aren’t always the same thing.
Critical conversations is a workshop series for TUD educators on educator-student dynamics and the ways in which teaching practices, both intentional and unintentional, influence the development of STEM professionals and the quality of the work they go on to do. It is inspired by and linked to results from a recently funded NWO project examining how privilege and marginalization are reproduced in Dutch academia. Background Inclusive Education Community
A hands-on masterclass on Inclusive Education in January 2025 revealed that many valuable initiatives are already happening at the university. Participants expressed a need to better understand these efforts and exchange experiences. In May 2025, we held a follow-up meeting to gather insights into current initiatives and participants’ wishes. Based on these outcomes, we will organize events that help educators connect, share experiences, and learn from each other. Our goal is to provide an overview of relevant initiatives and build a network that supports easy sharing, collaboration, and inspiration.
In 2026 we organised a session on Mentorship (January), on Conflict in student groups (March) and the Challenge Arena (May).
