Navigating your career with a disability, chronic disease or health condition
Time: 13h30 - 16h00
Where: Student Services Centre (SSC) Bonnefantenstraat 2. Room B0.27
Host: Kristie Stoelers, Disability Support Officer & Dieke Cornelissen, Career Coach.
Entering the labour market and finding the job that fits you can be challenging, sometimes even more so when you have certain needs and abilities due to a disability or a chronic disease or health condition.
This workshop addresses the challenges of finding and applying for a job for a student with a disability, a chronic disease or a health condition – from recognizing your competencies to identifying job opportunities that fit your needs, abilities and talents, and the job application process. And most importantly: to find a job you like and fits you!
If you have certain needs and abilities due to a disability (e.g. dyslexia, ADHD, autism, a mental health issue…) and/or (chronic) illness (e.g., diabetes), you might have questions like:
- How do I approach finding a job that fits me and matches my personal needs and abilities?
- How do I market myself and highlight my extraordinary talents?
- When I apply for a position, should I mention in my application letter or CV that I have a disability?
- What do I need to disclose about my abilities and what not? And when? How can I ask for facilities during the job?
- And what about my legal rights regarding the employer’s adaptations to the working environment?
There are no ready-made answers to most of these questions, but in this training, we will give you tools to determine what works for you in your specific situation. We also offer the opportunity to exchange experiences with other students during this training.
In this workshop, you will:
- Gain insight into the job application process and discuss which challenges you can face during this process.
- Get to recognize your distinguishing talents and competencies as an employee.
- Learn how to identify jobs and employers that fit your needs, abilities and talents.
- Discover best practices in the application process, and evaluate their suitability to you.

Movie Nights: Perfect Days
Time: 19h00 - 21h30
Where: Kaleido, Sint servaasklooster 39 Maastricht
Host: Kaleido x The Innbetween
Perfect Days is about the power of being present. Directed by Wim Wenders and released in 2023, the movie follows the life of Hirayama, a public toilet cleaner in Tokyo. His routine life is filled with quiet appreciation of beauty and moments of kindness and connection. It is a beautiful exploration of what really is a "good life" and how easy it is to miss it.
After watching the movie (around 2 hours) there will be an open discussion, so we can all deliberate on our thoughts, feelings and experiences, and what does it really mean to be successful nowadays.
We will have popcorn and snacks!
The event is a collaboration with the Innbetween.
