BBMRI-LPC (Biobanking and Biomolecular Resources Research Infrastructure – Large Prospective Cohorts) is one of the largest biobanking networks in Europe aiming to facilitate scientists’ access to large prospective study sets on human health and disease. As multinational research projects are often complicated by sample and data sharing difficulties due to limited resources, as well as by country specific legal and ethical procedures, BBMRI-LPC is set to help. By improving harmonization, providing solutions for transnational access and networking, BBMRI-LPC will increase the utilization of large sample collections in research on human health.
BBMRI-LPC missions to
Evaluate and improve the harmonization of health, lifestyle and other exposure data
develop and implement harmonized definitions of diseases (clinical endpoints)
Provide transnational access to samples and data, free of charge, for researchers through study proposals selected by an open pan- European call
Improve biobanking and research technologies, and develop innovative solutions that promote fair access to high-quality samples and data
Generate and offer access to whole genome sequences, transcriptome, proteome, metabolome and methylome data (within the framework of selected study proposals)
Build a network transferring expertise of already established biobanks to new emerging biobanks
Strengthen the existing public-private collaborations, and building new partnerships between industry and academia to share transparently the expertise in these fields.
