Search for industrial heritage in Maastricht

With this walk of about 45 minutes you will explore a part of the Jekerkwartier district known as the area where cloth weavers and tanners were active from the begin of the early Middle Ages. They made particular use of water mills, which because of the fast-flowing waters of the Jeker, enough energy supplied in order to ensure the fulling from woollen fabrics and the crush of tree bark untill run, used for the tanning of hides and skins. Especially these two branches of industry have the city of Maastricht in the 14th and 15th centuries fame given. The watermills witch you encounter were important for the industrial development of the city in the 19th century.
