Film Analysis - Anatomy of Film

Karel Deburchgrave
Film Critic, Hasselt (B)

Tue 27 Feb, and 6, 13, 20 and 27 Mar - 7.30 to 9.30 pm
Lumière Cinema, Bassin 88

Film analysis is the process by which a film is analysed in terms of visuals, sound, editing and narration. Analysing film helps us understand the effectiveness of filmmakers’
intentions and messages, as well as our own interpretations of the final visual product. Each topic will be illustrated by many film clips from different times and
directors. The presentations will also be linked to films at Lumière Cinema: www.lumiere.nl.

Karel Deburchgrave is the chairman of the Belgian film monthly Filmmagie and has worked as a film critic for various magazines. He teaches film at the film museums of Brussels, Antwerp and Louvain, and gives film seminars for
teachers at various cultural centres.
This series is organised in cooperation with Lumière Cinema.
