In 1972 the Club of Rome shared concerns about climate change and environmental degradation in the Limits to Growth report. They raised considerable public attention, but what happened after that? It seems like nothing changed. Economic growth is still high on the agenda. We measure our welfare by our GDP and after the financial crisis all was done to get back on the track of growth. The crash was not the expected final blow to capitalism. Economics is still reduced to a theory of monetary exchange. There is a strong believe that exponential growth will lead to a better world: no worries, the financial crisis is over, we are back on track, the economy is growing again. How long can we keep on going when clearly ecologically and socially limits are reached?
In this lecture series we want to look at alternatives and want to address new economic thinking.
