On Thursday February 8th 2018 the 2nd consecutive symposium on Applied Research on Charging Infrastructure (ARCHI) will be hosted by the Delft University of Technology (DUT). The Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS), DUT, Dutch INCERT and Dutch Platform Charging infrastructure (NKL) cordially invites researchers, academics, applied researchers and practitioners to share knowledge, spur innovation and create new linkages in the field of charging infrastructure for electric mobility.
ARCHI is organized to provide a platform to discuss the challenges around future charging infrastructure. It aims to bridge cutting edge research from researchers and concerns and challenges that practitioners in the field are faced with regarding the roll out of charging infrastructure. The first ARCHI symposium brought together 100+ key researchers and practitioners active in the field of charging infrastructure (see magazine on impressions of ARCHI-2017).
The keynotes of ARCHI
- Professor Joeri van Mierlo, Director MOBI research center, VU Brussels. Van Mierlo will provide an overview of the (international) status and trends regarding electric mobility in leading countries.
- Professor Rick De Doncker, Director of the Institute for Power Electronics and Electrical Drives (ISEA) and E.ON Energy Research Center at RWTH Aachen University. De Doncker will discuss the possibilities and issues of (super) fast charging (350kW) for electric vehicles.
- Crijn Bouman MSc - Vice President of Product Line Management, Product Group EV Charging Infrastructure at ABB. ABB is one of the world market leaders in charging solutions for electric vehicles; Bouman will share his market experiences and provide his vision on the future role of fast charging for electric vehicles.
- Roel Smelt - Chief Innovation Officer at MisterGreen Electric Lease. With hands-on knowledge of EV users, Smelt will discuss the effects of autonomous electric driving, opportunities for new revenue models and how Mister Green anticipates this disruption.
- Professor Pavol Bauer, head of DC Systems, Energy Conversion and Storage group at TU Delft. Bauer presents the latest insights on future charging technology including the opportunities and barriers of contactless charging, smart charging and bidirectional charging.
In the afternoon program the following parallel sessions are planned:
- Future Charging Technology: How will future charging stations look like? Will the future be contactless? Will storage be integrated in future stations? ARCHI brings together researchers and practioners that discuss the future of inductive charging, how stations may look like in the future and implications for current practice.
- Smart Charging: More than 10 initiatives in the Netherlands alone are ongoing on the topic of smart charging. What is the current state of the art? ARCHI provides an overview of smart charging initiatives, share findings, opportunities and barriers as well as derive implications.
- Simulating future charging: In recent years several simulation model were developed to model future EV demand and charging requirements. ARCHI brings together leading developers of agent based (simulation) models to discuss findings, implications for practice and collect research questions from practitioners.
- Charging behavior: How do EV drivers charge, how do they respond to price signals, how long are charging sessions and is this a problem? And how will we charge if we have larger batteries? ARCHI brings together consumer research and data based research to get more grip on how consumers charge now, and may charge in the future.
