Delft Design Dialogue #3: Design & War

Date: Tuesday 20 May, 15:45 – 18:30
Location: X Theatre Hall

War is popping up all around us. In heated discussions, in highly charged media campaigns, in all manner of strategies whether local or international. Not to mention on the battlefield itself.

A society in conflict is something that impacts us all. Personally, and as a faculty – especially one which aims to be a force for good, designing for our future.

Is there a fighting chance for a better future? And how do we as a faculty face the current world order?  This Delft Design Dialogue on Design & War aims to help you understand and articulate your own perspective and that of others.  As a faculty, we will wrestle with the dilemmas - without coming to blows.

The event starts off with a brief plenary introductory lecture by Davis Ellison, strategic analyst from The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies specialising in security and defence affairs. This will be followed by two participatory rounds of ‘World Cafe’-based table discussions on provocative statements relating to the theme Design & War.

After, we encourage you to stick around for the drinks until 18:30. Last events showed how the casual setting sparked valuable reflection and connection. A participant described it as an “exciting way to engage with colleagues and to feel the different opinions and trends that emerge within the faculty.”
