About ETHICOMP
The ETHICOMP conference series was launched in 1995 by the Centre for Computing and Social Responsibility (CCSR) at De Montfort University, UK, by Professor Terry Bynum and Professor Simon Rogerson. The purpose of this series is to provide an inclusive forum for discussing the ethical and social issues associated with the development and application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Conferences are held about every 18 months. Delegates and speakers from all continents have attended. The most recent edition was hosted by Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa in September 2025. ETHICOMP 2027 will be the 23rd edition.
ETHICOMP 2027 will take place 2–4 June at Maastricht University. The conference is organised by the Philosophy Department, with the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS) serving as the main venue. Dr. Dani Shanley (assistant professor of philosophy) and Katleen Gabriels (associate professor of philosophy) are the conference directors. The Maastricht Convention Bureau (MCB) is a key partner.
The 2027 iteration of ETHICOMP provides an inclusive international forum for discussing ethical, social, political, and philosophical questions concerning technology. The 2027 conference theme is ‘Tech Shaping Lives’. The conference will bring together talks, panels, and presentations on the human(e) factor in technologies (e.g., AI, Internet of Things, Extended Reality (XR), Virtual Reality (VR)).
