1. Fashion Makes Sense Award 2019
FASHIONCLASH presents: the 3rd edition of Fashion Makes Sense Award (FMSA), a supportive award for a new generation fashion designers with innovative and sustainable ideas.
FASHIONCLASH is looking for 10 fashion designers/brands who design and create sustainable fashion or would like to.

The FMSA consists of two awards: the audience prize of €1000,- and the jury prize of €2500,-!

The finalists will present/exhibit 1 outfit at Cube Design Museum in Kerkrade (from Saturday 28th of September 2019 until Monday 20th of January 2020) and 1 outfit during FASHIONCLASH Festival in Maastricht (Friday the 1st and Saturday the 2nd of November 2019). This means you’ll actually have to develop 2 outfits from your collection.

The presentation of the two awards will take place duringFASHIONCLASH Festival on Saturday 2nd of November 2019.

The aim of the FMSA project is to give the new generation of designers with innovative and sustainable ideas a stage and to encourage designers to think about sustainability. In addition, the project aims to contribute to awareness about sustainable fashion among a broad audience.
2. Exhibitions
Two exhibitions will take place on the occasion of the FMSA:

Expo 1: Cube Design Museum in Kerkrade (Saturday 28th of September 2019 until Monday 20th of January 2020).

Expo 2: FASHIONCLASH Festival in Maastricht (Friday 1st + Saturday 2nd of November 2019)

Expo 1 will be designed by Cube Design Museum and FASHIONCLASH. Expo 2 will be given shape by FC. During the exhibitions, you will present one outfit. So you will present 2 different outfits. The outfits + collection book * will be returned to all participants via PostNL within 2 weeks after Expo 1 expires. Outfit of Expo 2 + collection book, can also be taken home by the finalists after FASHIONCLASH Festival.

* The collection book containssketches / photos / materials / atmospheric images etc. of all outfits from your collection. The collection book will only be viewed by the jury.
3. Awards
On Saturday the 2nd of November 2019 during FASHIONCLASH Festival 2019, the public and jury award winners will be announced during the 'Partners & Awards show'.

Fashion Makes Sense Audience Award (€ 1000,-)
From Saturday the 28th of September everyone can vote for his/her favorite durable outfit. This can be done via an online and offline voting round. Both will each take 50% of the final result.

Online voting:
The online voting round will take place from Saturday the 28th of September till Saturday the 2nd of November 09:00 PM. Through the website of FASHIONCLASH (www.fashionclash.nl) everyone can vote for his/her favorite durable outfit/collection. As a participant you can fully promote this voting round, remember that only votes that enter the website via the poll are valid.

Offline voting:
The offline voting will take place from Saturday the 28th of September at Cube Design Museum in Kerkrade and during FASHIONCLASH Festival until the 2nd of November 09:00 PM.

Fashion Makes Sense Jury Award (€ 2500,-)
On Saturday the 2nd of November, the finalists will present their collections and concept to the jury during FASHIONCLASH Festival. The finalist explains his/her work in a short (English) presentation of a maximum of 5 minutes. The finalist also shows his/her collection book. Therefore, it is important that the finalists are present during the FASHIONCLASH Festival to explain the work to the jury. More information + planning follows.
4. Expense budget
Every selected finalist of the 'Fashion Makes Sense Awards' who lives within a radius of 300 kilometers from Maastricht, receives an expense allowance of € 350, - excl. VAT. This amount is intended for, among other things, presentation (collection book), shipping costs, travel costs, accommodation, insurance, etc.
Every selected participant living outside a radius of 300 kilometers from Maastricht, receives an expense allowance of € 450, - excl. VAT for, among other things, presentation (collection book), shipping costs, travel costs, accommodation, insurance, etc.
5. Registration procedure
Deadline: Wednesday the 1st of May 2019
Register via the application form before Wednesday the 1st of May 2019. The administration costs for registering are € 7.50 incl. VAT.

Safe your confirmation e-mail as it contains a link you need to fill in additional information if you’re selected.

It is important that it is clearly stated which outfit you would like to exhibit at Cube Design Museum (the 28th of September 2019 to the 20th of January 2020) and which outfit to present during FASHIONCLASH Festival (the 1st + 2nd of November 2019).

NOTE: If the new sustainable collection with which you want to apply does not exist (yet), then please also send images of your previous work. It is important that it is clearly stated that this concerns "old work".

Announcement finalists: Week 19
In week 19 the finalists for the Fashion Makes Sense Award will be announced by a personal e-mail.

7. IMPORTANT: If you are selected as a finalist of the FMSA, the following steps must be followed:

Submitting promotion / communication - Video + Promotional text + Images
Deadline: Tuesday the 28th of May 2019

Video
For the Fashion Makes Sense exhibition and as promotion for your collection, every finalist will have to send in a short video (in English). In this video of max. 1 min you will introduce your label and/or yourself as a designer, talk about your vision on sustainability and give an explanation of your collection.
These videos will also be distributed via our social media platforms. The video can be recorded with a smartphone, but please make sure it is of good quality.

The videos are put in an FMSA template by FASHIONCLASH and sent back by email in week 38 so you can use the video yourself for promotion.

Promotional text
For the promotion of the FMSA it is important that you provide the final title of your work and a short promotion text. The title of the work and the short text must be delivered by email no later than Tuesday the 28th of May.

The total text which must be in English can consist of a maximum of 150 words and contains a piece of background information about you as a designer and/or your label, the collection and your vision on sustainability and how you have translated this into your collection. This text is used in the FMSA program book and will be translated in Dutch by FASHIONCLASH. Please note that the text must be accessible to a wide audience. FASHIONCLASH has the right to edit the text to prevent errors. Texts that contain more than 150 words are shortened.

Imagery
Together with your video, you will send us images of the collection (at least 5 and max. 15 images. This may also be drawings). Some of these images are processed in the video and used in the program book. FASHIONCLASH will determine and shape the final selection.

Send your video + promotional text + images before Tuesday the 28th of May 2019 via the link of your application form.

Delivery outfits + collection book:
Deadline: Monday the 2nd of September 2019

The 2 outfits (1x Cube Design Museum + 1x FASHIONCLASH Festival) and the collection book must be in our possession by Monday the 2nd of September 2019 at the latest. This can be done by mail or by personal delivery to our office in Maastricht within office hours, 09.00 AM - 17.00 PM (by appointment - please contact Laura de Waart via fmsa@fashionclash.nl. )
