Life sciences business opportunities in the US market

In conjunction with CITRIS (a University of California institute), Medical Delta, and the Dutch Consulate General in San Francisco, InnovationQuarter has launched an exclusive Soft Landing Program for Dutch companies wanting to expand internationally. We provide  companies an opportunity to test the US market fit for their life sciences and health technologies, and/or to collaborate with Californian research institutes to develop new technologies.

The program offers Dutch startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) a great opportunity for a soft landing for a trial period in the US market.

The soft landing will take place between the 1st of October 2016 and 31st of March 2017 for a period of one to six weeks in Silicon Valley. Start dates and durations of stay are flexible and tailored to company needs.

Our offer

We offer you the entrepreneur a platform to test-run your commercially (in Europe) available product during a 1 to 6 week stay in Silicon Valley, including: 

Office space in one or more of the participating Silicon Valley incubators affiliated with the University of California. The stay is fully funded (at no cost to you).

Mentorship and support from CITRIS, the Consulate General of the Netherlands in San Francisco, and their various partners.

Full support in accessing financial resources, engaging with strategic partners, and refining of business models for market opportunities in the US.

Greater exposure to global partners and opportunities to pursue clients.


What do we ask from you in return?

First of all, your time. As we can help only a handful of companies during this exchange, we will need you to inform us well about what it is that you are doing as a company, what your ambitions regarding becoming an international business are, and to denonstrate why you should be selected for this exchange;

Should you be selected for the exchange, we will ask you to invest time with us to determine how we can tailor the program to your company’s needs;

Also, you should be able and willing to spend at least one week – but preferably more – in Silicon Valley;

Lastly, you will be asked to invest some of your own money by purchasing your airline ticket to the US and to pay for your accommodation during your stay, as well as for personal out-of-pocket costs. We will take care of all business-related costs, such as housing, events, matchmaking, etc. 


What are the criteria for companies?

Eligilbility criteria include:

  • You are a for-profit business in a high-growth field;
  • You have a product on or close to market in the Netherlands/EU;
  • You have successfully secured funding for development.

​In other words: we are looking for companies that will be able to make an impact, and are serious about wanting to pursue opportunities for scaling up their business in the US market.


How does the selection process work?

Selection of the companies to participate will be based on a questionnaire and interview to determine your company’s needs and readiness. Decisions regarding placement at individual incubators and mentoring are customized to each selected company.

This exchange is open for a limited number of companies. Applications will be accepted immediately and selections will be made on a continuous basis.
