"Investing in prevention: why economics and preferences matter"

2 October 2026 | 16.30 hrs. | Aula Maastricht University

Mickael Hiligsmann has been appointed as Professor in Health Preferences and Economics of Prevention at the Department of Health Services Research, part of Care and Public Health Research Institute (CAPHRI) at the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences.

You are cordially invited to attend his inaugural lecture: “Investing in prevention: why economics and preferences matter” on Friday, October 2nd, 2026.

The inaugural lecture will explore why prevention, despite its importance for population health, remains difficult to fund and implement within current healthcare systems. Prof. Mickael Hiligsmann will discuss how economic evidence and patient and societal preferences can support better decision-making and make prevention more investable. Drawing on recent initiatives in the Netherlands and work at Maastricht University, the lecture will highlight practical approaches to evaluating and prioritizing preventive interventions.

We look forward to seeing you on Friday afternoon, October 2nd, 2026.
