Conference Changing the Nature of Art and Science. Intersections with Maria Sibylla Merian

Accommodation

 

On Wednesday and Thursday the conference will be held in the Royal Tropical Institute, Mauritskade 63.  The sessions on Friday will be held in the Artis Library, Plantage Middenlaan 45, and Artis Zoo, Plantage Kerklaan 38-40. The locations are within walking distance. All these locations are situated in the Amsterdam East-area. There are many hotels and hostels in this part of the city. A selection:

Programme

 

Registration for the sessions and for the additional programme starts on Wednesday at 12:00 o’clock. On Thursday, there will be a conference dinner at the Oude Turfmarkt 129. If you have not registered for the dinner yet, you can still do so via the Registration page. It is possible to book the dinner separately. This dinner costs 40 euros.

 

Public Transportation

 

If you wish to use public transport in Amsterdam, the public transport chip card (OV-chipkaart) is used for travel on trams, buses and metros. You can buy a one-day, two-day, three-day or four-day card in advance online, or at the train station. The tram stop Alexanderplein (line 9, 10 or 14) is in front of the Royal Tropical Institute and is also close to the Artis Library.

 

Airport

 

You can get from Schiphol International Airport to Amsterdam Central Station by train in less than 20 minutes. On weekdays during daytime hours trains leave approximately once every 10 minutes to Central Station. Check the NS Train website, www.ns.nl,  for schedules. Train tickets cost €4,20 each way for second class fare. Tickets can be purchased at the yellow and blue machines in the main plaza at Schiphol.
