Van Leidschendam-Voorburg

The municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg has around 40,000 parking spots in public spaces. Every four years the occupancy of all those parking spots is measured by hand by on-street teams. This is an expensive and time-consuming project. There is no paid parking in the city, not even in the city centre. Instead, there is a maximum time to park in certain areas in the city (blue zones with parking discs). Inhabitants and local businesses are able to get an exemption to park unlimited in those blue zones. Considering the occupancy status of the public parking in the city is a dynamic matter, the municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg is looking for technical solutions that could provide (near) real-time data of the city’s occupancy of parking spots.

In short, the municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg would like to better accommodate its citizens’ and visitors’ needs and optimize its current parking policies. Insight in the dynamic occupancy of the parking spots would greatly help to optimize the policies.- BAS LIGTHART

Gemeente van Den Haag

Currently, with approximately 170,000 parking spots in the public space, the municipality of The Hague has a continuous challenge to keep data on parking pressure up-to-date. Current means to measure occupancy include high tech video cars, but it’s still labour intensive and prone to errors. Maintaining the capacity map is a fully manual process. The Hague Municipality needs a scalable technical innovation to acquire data on both the occupancy and capacity.

For example, in order to allow new business licenses in various neighbourhoods, having reliable data on the occupancy of available parking spots is a major factor in issuing that license. The real challenge is getting the data right, in a timely manner, and processing it for ensuring a smart city, where new businesses aren’t bothered by sluggish bureaucratic processes but co-exist in thriving ecosystems.

In short, The Hague Municipality is looking for tech to obtain, aggregate and interpret data on parking occupancy and capacity. - RUUD VAN GILS
