Make the most of your Pentecost weekend in Maastricht
As our Homecoming takes place over the Pentecost weekend, we’re delighted to help you turn it into an enjoyable Maastricht getaway. We’ve put together a selection of optional activities. Whether you’re travelling from abroad, visiting with children or simply keen to explore the city, these experiences offer a fun way to extend your Homecoming celebration.
You’re welcome to sign up for any activities that appeal to you. Please note that places are limited, so early registration is recommended.

Disclaimer: Activities can be booked until 20 April. Activities can be booked, but will only go ahead if the minimum group size is reached. If an activity cannot take place, you will receive a full refund.
Breakfast and nature walk
Start your day with a delicious breakfast at Slavante before heading out into the beautiful South Limburg countryside. Choose a peaceful walk (approximately 2.5 hours) across the Sint Pietersberg, through the Jeker Valley and over the Caestert plateau towards the River Meuse. At Slavante, you will receive a walking map to plan your own route, as well as a small backpack filled with treats (per two people) to enjoy along the way. After your walk, a refreshing drink awaits you at Slavante.

Adults: a breakfast platter with a croissant, bread, scrambled eggs, pancakes, yoghurt and fresh toppings plus fresh orange juice and coffee, cappuccino or tea

Museum of Illusions
Step into a world where nothing is quite what it seems. At the Museum of Illusions, your senses are put to the test as you explore the science behind optical illusions in an interactive way. Walk on walls, shrink before your very eyes and be amazed by exhibits that play with psychology and neuroscience. An experience guaranteed to turn your perception of reality upside down. Fun for all ages.

Beer tasting
Experience the unique flavours of Stadsbrouwerij Maastricht with a beer tasting. Enjoy a board with four tasting glasses, each carefully selected from their own brewery, allowing you to savour the true ‘Taste of Maastricht’. Every beer has its own story and reflects the rich history and tradition of the brewery.

Guided tour brewery
Experience the rich history of Stadsbrouwerij Maastricht during a guided tour of the monumental building and its tower. You will be welcomed with a glass of Maltezer, the brewery’s oldest beer, before discovering everything about the history of beer, the brewing process, and the brewery’s role within the city. In the brewhouse, you’ll pour your own glass of Mergel Wit to taste. At the end of the tour, you’ll receive a beer package to take home as well as a booklet about the history of the building.

River cruise and lunch
Enjoy the beauty of Maastricht from the water as you step aboard for a relaxing cruise along the River Meuse. The boat takes you past the historic city centre and iconic landmarks such as the Sint Servaas Bridge and the Gouvernement building. Near the Dutch–Belgian border, the boat turns back towards the city centre. As you sail past Maastricht’s highlights, you’ll enjoy a delicious Captain’s Lunch featuring soup of the day, a selection of sandwiches and coffee and tea on request.

Guided walking tour
The perfect way to get to know Maastricht? A guided tour through the Heart of Maastricht. You’ll explore the Stokstraat Quarter, the charming Onze Lieve Vrouweplein and the famous Vrijthof, as well as the historic city walls, the Helpoort and the beautiful Jeker Quarter. You’ll also learn about the typical Maastricht way of life, the so‑called ‘Mestreechter Geis’. Let yourself be carried along by personal stories spanning 2,000 years of Maastricht’s history.

Cinema for the little ones
At Taartrovers Cinemini by Lumière, children aged 2 to 6 – accompanied by an adult – enjoy their very first cinema experience. They watch a selection of short, enchanting films (mostly without text) created especially for young audiences. Afterwards, the little explorers can get hands-on in a magical light-filled landscape full of installations. Through play, they discover how light, shadow, shapes and movement can come together to create stories. A gentle, imaginative journey of discovery for the very youngest.

Vlaai-baking workshop
Fancy baking a piece of Limburg culture? You can do just that in the vlaai-baking workshop at the Bak Atelier in Valkenburg. Baker Roel has a deep passion for his craft and will teach you how to make rich yeast dough, prepare a fruit filling, roll out and line the dough, finish the vlaai with a traditional toesjlaag, and finally bake and release it from the tin. Of course, you can take your vlaai home afterwards to enjoy it later.

Catacombs Museum
A visit to the Roman Catacombs Museum in Valkenburg is an unforgettable experience. Wandering through the underground passageways, the guide takes you back to long‑forgotten times, to Rome in the early Christian period of the third and fourth centuries. You descend to the graves of ordinary Roman citizens as well as the magnificent burial chambers of prominent Romans

Walking Dinner
Fancy discovering the city one bite at a time? Set off on a self-guided walk that leads you past some of the area’s highlights, with a detailed route description to keep you on track. Along the way, you’ll enjoy a three‑course progressive dinner, with each course served at a different restaurant. It’s a wonderfully relaxed way to explore, savour and wander all at once.
