CALL FOR SESSIONS
Synergy conference 2019 is for, with, but especially FROM the social sciences and humanities community. This means that you can also organise one of the parallel sessions as well as being a participant. This is a unique opportunity to share your knowledge and vision with colleagues and to engage in a dialogue with them.
The conference programme has four rounds of parallel sessions. In two of these, a total of seven contributions from the field will be presented. You therefore have the opportunity to organise a part of the programme. During the rest of Synergy conference 2019 you can of course participate as a delegate as well. Do you have a good idea for a session? Then we would really appreciate receiving your proposal.
What do you need to know?
If your proposal is selected, then you will be the organiser of your own session. We will, of course, assist you wherever possible and necessary. We will ensure that your session is given a place on the event website and in the event app, we will arrange the session room and, in consultation with you, the necessary facilities.
The most important characteristics of a session:
- SESSION DURATION
One session lasts 40 minutes*. After a 10 minute break, the session will be repeated for a new audience.
The public must be actively involved in the session, in a way that fits the conference theme: THINK360. In need of inspiration? Please find several types of interaction described here. Other ideas are welcome too. In consultation with the organisation, you can also make use of an interactive voting module so that you can pose the audience questions that they answer via their mobile phones.
A session should, of course, be about a subject that falls within the social sciences and humanities. Additional perspectives can include addressing a current societal or scientific issue, a glimpse into the future, relevant connections between social sciences and humanities disciplines and other disciplines or the combination of research and societal practice (for example contributions from industry, universities of applied sciences, TNO or government knowledge institutions).
Allow for an audience of about 30-50 people, consisting of researchers and other professionals who are interested in academic research.
* Only in exceptional cases and in consultation with NWO the decision can be taken to extend the session to 1.25 hours, for example. In that case, you will organise a session that only takes place once instead of twice.
Who can organise a session?
Proposals may be submitted by researchers who are affiliated with one of the Knowledge Institutes acknowledged by NWO (see NWO Grant Rules 2017).
Submitting your proposal
Are you interested in organising a session? Then submit your proposal in a maximum of 1 page A4 (minimum font size 10 points) no later than 1 November 2018 to SSH_Synergy@nwo.nl. Your proposal should state at least the following:
- Contact details submitter
- Name, position and institution of the session leader(s)
- Session subject
- Type of interaction you wish to use
After the submission deadline, NWO will make a selection of the proposals to realise a balanced programme for the parallel sessions. We will do this as quickly as possible and will contact submitters of proposals within three weeks of the submission deadline.
Please mail SSH_Synergy@nwo.nl or phone Rick de Jong via +31 70 344 0691.
