Forms of Varicose Veins Treatment

Forms of Veins Treatment

The need for varicose veins treatment comes after enlargement of veins on the leg and feet; the vein enlargement causes pain and general discomfort on these parts. At times, this illness can point to serious circulatory problems which may require the use of advanced treatment procedures such as Sclerotherapy, laser surgery or Endoscopic vein surgery. Before patients can acquire any form of treatment, they must have experienced several symptoms such as dark purple veins which get itchy at times, bleeding from the veins and intense pain after sitting or standing for long periods. The perfect time for seeking treatment is when the self-care measures have failed in controlling or stopping the enlarged veins.

In the case of varicose veins which present few and less severe symptoms, doctors recommend a few lifestyle changes as a form of varicose veins remedy which include:

  • Refraining from sitting or standing for a long time. Avoid cross-legged sitting and always raise your legs when sleeping or sitting.
  • Engage in physical exercises to allow the free circulation of blood through the veins.
  • Overweight or obese people are encouraged to lose weight to relieve pressure on the veins.
  • Wear loose clothes; tight clothes tend to worsen the severity of the varicose veins.
  • Stick with low heeled shoes because high heels strain the muscles thus worsening the varicose veins. Additionally, wear compression stockings which reduce the probability of blood clots and subsequent swelling of the legs.

Some patients however require advanced varicose veins cure which entail the removal or the closing of the varicose veins. These medical procedures include:

  • Sclerotherapy: It is a simple procedure which involves the closing of a varicose vein by injecting a chemical liquid into the enlarged vein which then causes irritation and ultimate disappearance of the vein. It is therefore a remedy to small and less severe varicose veins. The injection is given every 4 weeks; during this period, a patient’s legs are enclosed in elastic bandages which control and reduce swelling.
  • Microsclerotherapy: Telling from the name, the procedure aims at treating small enlarged veins. The amount of chemical liquid injected is also small and the procedure produces similar results as Sclerotherapy.
  • Laser surgery: This procedure doesn’t involve surgery or injection of liquid chemicals. For the varicose veins to fade away, a laser light is applied on them.
  • Endovenous Ablation therapy: In this treatment varicose veins, the doctor uses laser light or radio waves. Unlike laser surgery which produces light, this procedure creates heat which causes the varicose veins to close or fade away. However, the doctor has to cut the skin around the affected veins then insert a catheter whose tip produces the heat necessary for the healing process. Since the procedure is not complicated, the only area that is numbed is the affected part.
  • Endoscopic vein surgery: Just like the ablation therapy, the doctor has to cut the affected part then uses a surgical instrument to shut the vein. This procedure is mostly for severe varicose veins which cause skin sores.

Other forms of varicose veins medication include ambulatory phlebectomy and vein stripping and litigation.
