Human Rights Lecture:
Diversity with a 'bite'

Wednesday 8 December, 20:00
Auditorium, Minderbroedersberg 4-6

Prof. Halleh Ghorashi

Full Professor of Diversity and Integration, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam

In this lecture, Halleh Ghorashi will discuss our changing attitude to diversity. First, she will go into the dominant way we deal with diversity in the Netherlands, placing it in a historical context. In doing so, she will show that until recently the diversity interventions in the Netherlands were “toothless”, as they did not address normative thinking. Ghorashi will proceed to argue that to effect long-term change it is necessary to invest in inclusive structures.  The BLM movement has put this need for structural change on the agenda of society and organisations more than ever before. She describes what is necessary for giving the diversity issue a structural “bite”, so that the diversity that is present in society can really make a difference.
