Dear Veni candidate,

You have submitted a Veni preproposal to NWO. You will receive your preproposal selection result in November, leaving little time to draft a competitive full proposal  (deadline 24 January 2023).

To help and support you in the writing process the UM funding advisors invite all preproposal candidates to enroll in the training “Writing a Veni full proposal”. This training will help you how to best structure your proposal, how to frame your proposal and will provide valuable background information about the review process.

The training consists of two parts for which you can register separately using the following link, before Monday 17 October 9.00:

Subscribe plenary session and/or writing training

  1. One plenary information session on Tuesday 1 November 10.00-12.00.

Because writing a competitive and strong Veni proposal takes time, thought and revisions, we encourage you to already work on your full proposals while awaiting the pre-proposal results. In this plenary session, we provide you with an introduction to personal grant writing, the Veni review process, and tips and tricks on how to draft a proposal.

Please note that you can also attend this plenary session if you do not want to participate in the proposal writing training described below.

  1. A proposal writing training running in November/December (see detailed schedule below).

This training takes place in small groups of 3-4 researchers and consists of two writing skills sessions (all half day sessions). The training sessions will start in the third week of November, after you have received the results from the preproposal stage.

Therefore, you are welcome to register for the training and opt out if you learn that you are not invited by NWO to submit a full proposal.

The training provides hand-on advice and support in the writing process; you enter the training with your own draft proposal, and during the training, you will review other proposals and rewrite your own draft. Using the feedback and insights from these meetings, you will continue to work on your own proposal. This means that we expect you to upload a rewritten version of your proposal prior to every writing session, but also to review two other proposals of your colleagues.
