November 10th - UMASC event on sustainability certification

November 10h, an online event on sustainable certification will take place organized by and for the UM Alumni Sustainability Community. Do you want to know more about some sustainable certification schemes for businesses and discuss the contribution of such schemes to the sustainable transition? Then please join the event in which two presenters will give a presentation about different sustainability certification systems. During the event, we will have time for discussions in break-out rooms, which also offers an opportunity to get to know other members of the UM Alumni Sustainability Community.

You can find more information about the speakers and presentations below:

Andreea Pafaluta (Senior Business Sustainability Analyst at B Lab)

Andreea Pafaluta will talk about the B Corp Certification process and the importance of the B Corp movement and its purpose to use business as a force for good. Andreea graduated from FASoS with a Bachelor’s in European Studies and a Master’s in Politics and Society, and is currently a member of the UM Alumni Sustainability Committee.

B Corp Certification is a designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials. Certified B Corps are leaders in the global movement for an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy. Unlike other certifications for businesses, B Lab is unique in their ability to measure a company’s entire social and environmental impact.

Anna Roberto (Head of Marketing Operations at GRESB)

Anna will give a presentation about how GRESB is contributing to the transition in sustainability in businesses. Anna graduated from FASoS with a Bachelor’s in European Studies.

GRESB is a mission-driven and investor-led organization that provides actionable and transparent Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) data to financial markets. Based on these certification standards, such as LEED, BREEAM, and local green building certifications, GRESB offers a reporting framework that results in ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) benchmarks. Anna will tell a bit more about the effectiveness of such certification systems in upholding sustainability standards.
