Abstract
Identification and physiological role of novel catecholamines
6-nitrodopamine (6-ND) is a novel catecholamine that is released from vascular tissues such as human umbilical arteries and vein1, Chelonoidis carbonarius aortic rings2, Panterophis guttatus aortic rings3 and from rat isolated atria4 and from rat5 and human6 vas deferens (5,6). In the vascular tissues, 6-ND is a potent relaxant agent, acting as a truly selective dopamine D2like-receptor antagonist1,3. In the atria, 6-ND is 100x more potent than noradrenaline and adrenaline as positive chronotropic4 agent. Here will be presented some evidence on the inotropic effect of 6-ND and its interactions with the classical catecholamines on isolated atria and the Langendorff heart preparation. In addition, it will be presented the identification of other novel endogenous catecholamines and their action in the circulatory system, and some data on the biosynthetic pathways involved.
