Dear all,

It’s time for a new year and a new round of training for sexual violence support. We might have already told quite a lot of you, the Sexual Safety Programme is a success. Students are (very) positive about the flyer and the lecture and feel more confident they know where to find support. Thus, it is even more important that we continue professionalization of UM support staff and we are grateful for your participation.

Confidential advisors, study advisors, UM psychologists, and student deans get the foreground in attending the training but empty spots are open for everyone.

Fabriek 69 will visit Maastricht University again for two trainings:

  • NEW! Thursday, February 1 (9.30-17.00) having conversations with perpetrators of sexual violence (or people who realise during the conversation they have perpetrated sexual boundaries). ONLY IN DUTCH (sorry we are still looking for a provider in English)
    • Lunch provided
    • Small group for the practical part (max 12 persons)
    • The day is divided into two parts: during the morning the theoretical part and in the afternoon practicing with an actor.
  • Recurring! Thursday, March 14 (9.30-17.00) conversational skills – disclosures of sexual violence. ONLY IN ENGLISH
    • Lunch provided
    • Small group for the practical part (max 12 persons)
    • The day is divided into two parts: during the morning the theoretical part and in the afternoon practicing with an actor.

Receiving disclosures might not be your primary responsibility. However, it is important to be able to react appropriately if a disclosure is made. Offering trauma-sensitive support following a disclosure of or conversation about an experience of inappropriate sexual behaviour is vital. It can help victims/survivors to heal more quickly, find specialised support, or go to the police. Negative reactions, even accidental ones, can cause further harm to victims/survivors.

UM’s procedure meeting.

During this meeting, you will learn about the different forms of support a victim/survivor of sexual violence, a bystander, ora  perpetrator can receive at UM. This means we discuss what the study advisor, student dean, UM psychologist, confidential advisor and the new function social safety coordinator can do for a student. Besides that, we will give information on what the Sexual Assault Centre (Centrum Seksueel Geweld) and police can do. The goal is that you can provide students with clear information and advice on support options at UM and outside of UM in the case of sexual violence.

  • UM Procedure training - several dates and times
    • during this training the UM procedures are discussed
    • max 20 persons
    • short training of two hours

'Are you okay?'-lecture training

The training will go over the 'Are you okay?'-lecture material. Participants can get comfortable with the lecture material and practice with the students that will help out with the lectures.

  • 21st of June
    • Nederlands 10.00-12.30 (Walk in 9.45)
    • English 13.30-16.00 (Walk in 13.15)
