Studium Generale is back at the University College Venlo (UCV) after a successful series of lectures in 2019-2020. This time, the lectures at the UCV will be in English. Dutch lectures in a series of six this season will take place in Venlo’s city library. The SG Diary will only announce the English lectures, so check out the library’s programme to get the whole picture: www.bibliotheekvenlo.nl.
Planetary Health: The Recipe for a Sustainable Future
TUE 5 NOVEMBER, 19.30
Lecture hall, Nassaustraat 36, Venlo
Prof. Pim Martens
Dean of UCV and professor of planetary health, UM
Pim Martens discusses the health of our planet, and the impacts on human health (which ultimately depends on the health of the planet). To this end, rather than separating ourselves further from nature—for example, by putting fences around it—we should learn to live with nature again. Fundamentally rethinking our relationship with our living planet has therefore never been more important. However, we cannot do so unless we think differently about our place on Earth. Healthy human societies cannot exist on a dying planet. So we must wonder and reconnect with nature. If you respect the Earth, you respect life and yourself. And that is the essence of planetary health.
