ADHD and/or Autism - Navigating sensory sensitivities

Are you a student with ADHD and/or Autism (formally diagnosed, self-diagnosed or strong suspicion), and you...

•    feel overwhelmed by bright lights or certain lighting conditions?
•    find yourself distracted or irritated by background noises that others seem to ignore?
•    experience discomfort with certain textures in clothing, foods or materials?
•    seek out intense sensory experiences, like loud music or bright lights to feel more engaged?
•    have a high tolerance for pain and sometimes don't notice injuries immediately?
•    seek tight hugs or deep pressure to feel grounded and comfortable?

By the end of this session you will be able to...
•    understand the effects of sensory overload
•    share your own experiences with sensory over- and understimulation
•    understand your sensory profile, including sensory preferences and triggers
•    develop strategies for managing sensory overload
•    create your own personalized sensory safety plan

The workshop will be facilitated by Eva Ipektzidou and Gesa Lange, student counsellors at SBE and UCM, respectively. As part of the UM project team Embracing Neurodiversity: Let’s Talk about ADHD and Autism, they are dedicated to fostering a safe and welcoming environment at UM where neurodivergent individuals can express their needs, access appropriate support, and feel understood.
