Round 1 (13:30 - 14:30)

1.Institutionalized Responses to Climate Risk in the Dutch Financial Sector

Host: Abdi Mehvar and Tom Daamen, Delft University of Technology
How do Dutch banks, pension funds, and insurers address climate risks in real estate and infrastructure? Drawing on analysis of 120 public documents, this session explores financial logics shaping adaptation barriers and opportunities and invites participants to discuss and reflect on key findings and propositions.
Room: ID 1.211

 2. Adaptive pathways for water management measures

Hosts:  Luc Ponsioen and Maged Elsamny, Delft University of Technology
Using Amsterdam’s Haven-Stad as a case study, this session explores flood adaptation pathways for urban development. Beyond technical and economic feasibility, it examines social, environmental, and governance factors. Participants are invited to provide feedback on a proposed framework for assessing governance and social impacts of flood management strategies.
Room: ID 1.212

 3. Insurance in a climate adaptive Delta

Hosts: Mats Lucia and Zac Taylor, Delft University of Technology; Maria Fonseca Cerda; VU Amsterdam
How do climate hazards translate into financial risks for households, businesses, and institutions? This session explores flood loss estimation using insurance data from the 2021 Limburg floods, climate impacts on property values, and the effectiveness of business-level flood insurance, highlighting their combined influence on resilience and credit risk.
Room: ID 1.111

 4. Serious game ‘Decision-making on urban rainwater and subsidence measures’

Hosts: Richard Pompoes, Wageningen University; Lilian van Karnenbeek, Utrecht University
In this interactive session, participants step into the roles of stakeholders in the fictional Dutch city of Maasveen, facing rainwater flooding and soil subsidence. By debating responsibility, financing, and justice, the session explores how legal frameworks and local choices shape adaptation to pressing urban climate challenges.
Room: ID 1.521

Round 2 14:45 - 15:45

 1. Interdisciplinary insights on water labels and their impact on homeowner adaptation

Host: Cees Oerlemans, Delft University of Technology
This session explores how climate risk labels can support flood adaptation. Combining flood risk analysis, economic modeling, and behavioral insights, it examines both technical and socio-economic dimensions of risk communication. Participants will discuss how labeling influences homeowners’ decisions, with perspectives from insurers, bankers, builders, and researchers.
Room: ID 1.212

 2. Water en Woningnood Niet afwentelen! Of toch wel? (Session in Dutch)

Host: Ties Rijcken, Delft University of Technology
Room: ID 1.212

 3. Insurance in a climate adaptive Delta

Hosts: Mats Lucia and Zac Taylor, Delft University of Technology; Maria Fonseca Cerda, VU Amsterdam
This session explores the interplay between insurance, climate adaptation, and urban development in the Netherlands, with a focus on unembanked (buitendijks) areas. In a moderated dialogue, societal partners will reflect on how technical, behavioral, and insurance-based resilience strategies can be combined in practice, while balancing fairness and equity considerations.
Room: ID 1.111

 4. Serious game ‘Decision-making on urban rainwater and subsidence measures’

Hosts: Richard Pompoes, Wageningen University; Lilian van Karnenbeek, Utrecht University
In this interactive serious game, participants step into the roles of stakeholders in the fictional Dutch city of Maasveen, facing rainwater flooding and soil subsidence. By debating responsibility, financing, and justice, the session explores how legal frameworks and local choices shape adaptation to pressing urban climate challenges.
Room: ID 1.521
