Thank you for your enrollment in UNU-MERIT's Master in Public Policy and Human Development short courses in academic year 2025-2026. Courses run 4-8 weeks full time in Maastricht, offering certificates and formal credits.
We ask you to pay for one course at a time.
Upon registering and paying your first course, you are eligible for a discount for the subsequent courses within the next 2 academic years. Before you register for the second or subsequent course , our coordinator will be able to provide you with a discount code that decreases tuition with 500 euro per course. If you use that code in the discount box, the tuition decreases accordingly.
Application requirements
All applicants need to have a bachelor degree in a relevant field. We will ask you to upload your CV and copy of your certificates for verification.
In addition, there are a number of requirements for the following courses. In your application you will need to provide motivation and proof how you fulfilled those requirements. Our application committee will review those documents and confirm acceptance or rejection to you.

- Advanced Methods For Policy-Relevant Research And Analysis (SKL4205)
1) Attendance of the course of Methods for Policy Analysis (SKL4106);
- Global Governance And Human Development (GGD4401)
1) Basic understanding of the policy process, international institutions and actors, stakeholder analysis. This can be done via attendence of the course MPP4301 Public Policy or demonstrated and motivated through past courses/working experience
- Governing Global Challenges (GGD4502)
1) Basic understanding of the policy process, international institutions and actors, and stakeholder analysis. This can be done via attendence of the course MPP4301 Public Policy or demonstrated and motivated through past courses/working experience
2)The attendance of GGD4401 Global Governance and Human Development;
3) Introduction to GIS – ArcGIS Online
- Innovation And Innovation Policy From A System Perspective: Global And Local Perspectives (GOI4401)
1)Knowledge of R. This can be done through a course on Introduction of R or similar or proven knowledge / skills from practice;
2) Knowledge of statistics and/or econometrics are an asset
- Understanding Social Protection: from Justification to Intervention (SPP4401)
1) Introductory Economics or Public Policy: To ensure they understand fundamental policy concepts and the role of social protection systems; This can be done by taking course Public Policy (MPP4301) or Public Economics (MPP4302)
2) Introductory Stata
- Sustainable Social Protection: Governance & Finance (SPP4502)
1) Attendance of the course Social Protection: From Justification to Intervention (SPP4401);
2) Introductory Economics or Public Policy: To ensure they understand fundamental policy concepts and the role of social protection systems; This can be done by taking course Public Policy (MPP4301) or Public Economics (MPP4302)
3) Basic Finance and Accounting: To grasp financial planning concepts and the resource management side of social protection financing;

Cancellation Fee
Full Refund Before Registration Deadline: Participants who withdraw before the registration deadline and before official registration in the university system are eligible for a full refund of fees paid, minus 100 euro administration costs.
- Partial Refund After Registration, until one week before the Course Start Date: If a participant withdraws after the registration deadline but before one week of the course start, 50% of the tuition will be refunded.
- No Refunds Once Course Has Begun: No refunds will be issued in case withdrawal happens one week before the course starts.
