Workshop: Shaping the future of Transport & Logistics
Join us on 7 October, 09:00–13:00, at Vakwerkhuis Delft, for a forward-looking event bringing together government bodies, industry associations, and companies in Transport & Logistics.
Why this workshop?
In today’s rapidly evolving transport sector, anticipating future shifts isn’t just beneficial; it’s essential. That’s where scenario thinking comes in. By imagining multiple plausible futures, organizations can robustly plan for disruption, uncertainty, and opportunity. Applied to your institution, scenario thinking empowers long-term resilience and strategy development. Scenario thinking is most powerful when grounded in scientifically substantiated insight. That’s why joining forces with scientists—whose work spans data, modelling, and foresight, brings depth and credibility to your organization’s pathways forward. This workshop builds on our previous full-scale mobility event, where four scenarios shaped the conversation. Now, those tools will be focused on Transport & Logistics. The workshop will be bringing clarity and creativity to one of society’s most vital sectors.
At TU Delft, our mission is not only to conduct cutting-edge research, but to do so in collaboration with public stakeholders: strengthening existing ties, sparking new partnerships, and nurturing strategic leads. Learn more about the TU Delft Mobilisers here.

Bringing Visionary Ideas into Action
As one of our researchers evocatively puts it:
“Logistics is going through various organizational and technological changes which necessitate systematic and visionary ideas. In order to shape those ideas, we believe synergy is needed between academic research and expertise in practice.”
We will fuse two connected themes in this workshop:
1- Decision Intelligence in Logistics
As logistics systems become more complex, the challenge is not only to gather data but to transform it into reliable decisions. AI, digital twins, optimization, and predictive modelling are converging into a new scientific approach to decision-making. This theme explores how such decision intelligence can guide logistics networks toward efficiency, resilience, and long-term competitiveness.
2- Zero-Emission Logistics
From 2025, Dutch cities will enforce zero-emission zones, triggering a systemic shift in logistics. The challenge is not only technological but decisional: how to align energy systems, urban hubs, and supply chains under pressure for sustainability and competitiveness. This theme explores how science-based foresight and strategic collaboration can turn regulation into opportunity.
These themes are mutually reinforcing—together they form the building blocks of a sustainable, efficient, and equitable logistics future.
We look forward to co-creating that future with you—melding strategic foresight, scientific insight, and stakeholder experience into actionable research and partnership opportunities.
