Are you building your academic career at UM while living with a disability, chronic illness or neurodivergence? The Disability Inclusion Group, UnliMited-Staff and the Maastricht Young Academy are pleased to invite you to a workshop where we share lived experiences and practical ways to successfully navigate working in academia. 

This workshop is intended for colleagues working in education or research at UM, including PhD candidates, who would like to exchange experiences and insights and learn more about the policies and support available within the university.

What to expect

• A short introduction to the UM UM Policy for Working with Disabilities and the Disability Inclusion Group
• UM colleagues who have built an academic career while having a disability, chronic illness or neurodivergence will share their lived experience, including:
  • barriers and challenges they have encountered
  • what has helped them in practice
  • approaches for talking with a supervisor or manager
• Small breakout groups for further conversation and peer exchange
• A breakout group focused on UM policies and relevant legal obligations

Your participation, and anything you choose to share during the workshop, will be treated confidentially.

Bouw je aan je academische loopbaan bij UM terwijl je een functiebeperking, chronische ziekte hebt of neurodivergent bent? De Disability Inclusion Group, UnliMited-Staff en de Maastricht Young Academy nodigen je graag uit voor een workshop waarin we doorleefde ervaringen delen en praktische manieren bespreken om je weg te vinden in de academische wereld.

Deze workshop is bedoeld voor collega’s die werkzaam zijn in onderwijs of onderzoek aan de UM, waaronder promovendi, en die ervaringen en inzichten willen uitwisselen en meer willen leren over het beleid en de ondersteuning die binnen de universiteit beschikbaar zijn.

Wat kun je verwachten?

• een korte introductie van het UM-beleid Werken met een functiebeperking en de Disability Inclusion Group
• UM-collega’s met een functiebeperking, chronische ziekte of neurodivergentie die een academische loopbaan hebben opgebouwd delen hun ervaringen, waaronder:
  • barrières en uitdagingen die zij zijn tegengekomen
  • wat hen in de praktijk heeft geholpen
  • manieren om het gesprek aan te gaan met een leidinggevende of supervisor
• kleine break-outgroepen voor verdere uitwisseling en gesprek
• een break-outgroep gericht op UM-beleid en relevante wettelijke verplichtingen

Je deelname, en alles wat je tijdens de workshop wilt delen, wordt vertrouwelijk behandeld.
