Course programme
Day 1 - 7th of September 2026: Getting started with Blender
We will begin with installation and first steps, followed by a tour through the Blender user interface. You will learn how to set preferences, work with add-ons, use primitives and meshing tools, import assets and objects such as CAD files, and apply materials and textures. We will also cover lighting, compositing, and how to generate your own eye-catching presentation slides directly in Blender.
Day 2 - 8th of September 2026: Scientific visualization and animation
The second day focuses on sculpting, animation, Python scripting, microscopy nodes and the visualization of microscopy data. We will also explore Blender’s physics engine and particle systems for creating dynamic and engaging scientific scenes.
Day 3 - 9th of September 2026: Geometry nodes and advanced workflows
On the final day, we will dive into geometry nodes and additional tools that allow you to build more complex, customized, and procedural 3D scenes.
Learning outcomes
After the workshop, you will be able to navigate Blender confidently, create customized 3D scenes, import and visualize scientific data, design materials and lighting, and produce short animations or rendered visuals for science and education.
Enjoy working on your own 3D rendered scene or animation while taking in the view of the river Maas on late summer days.
