LECTURE

Two years of Trump 2.0: How has U.S. foreign policy changed?

MON 12 OCTOBER, 20:00
Auditorium, Minderbroedersberg 4-6

Andrew Gawthorpe, PhD
Lecturer in History and International Studies, Leiden University

Since Donald Trump assumed office for the second time in early 2025, U.S. foreign policy has seemed increasingly unpredictable. But if we look closely, patterns are visible. This lecture will explore the goals underlying Trump’s foreign policy, and how he has reshaped the policymaking process in order to pursue them.

Andrew Gawthorpe leads a research group on U.S. politics and foreign policy at Leiden University and he is a Senior Fellow at the Foreign Policy Centre, a think tank in London. He comments frequently on U.S. politics and foreign policy in Dutch and international media.
