The world has fallen into disarray. Wars are flaring up everywhere that could pose a serious threat to Europe, while the great powers are seeking to reach agreements over the heads of the Europeans. It is high time, following economic and monetary integration, to press ahead with the military unification of Europe, as only military unification can bring about genuine political union and prevent the great powers from continuing to push Europe around. This lecture reviews the failed attempts to achieve political union and discusses what could and should be done now.
 

Hans-Werner Sinn is a German economist who served as President of the Ifo Institute for Economic Research. He currently serves on the German Ministry of Economy’s advisory council. He is a Professor Emeritus of Economics and Public Finance at LMU Munich.
