Workshops
14:00- 15:30 CEST
During the annual CAPHRI Research Day several workshops will be provided (see the overview below). Please note that you do not have to pre-register for these workshops and you can make your final selection for one of these workshops at the CAPHRI day.
1. Confession and Progression
by Petra Wolffs
Transdisciplinary work is gaining importance and interdisciplinary work, citizen science and participatory approaches are increasingly becoming part of our work. But, what are the benefits of these approaches, and what challenges can you encounter?
In this interactive workshop we want to discuss best practices as well as pitfalls, and illustrate these with real examples and experiences. Examples of topics we want to address are how to build and run transdisciplinary research teams, how to combine transdisciplinary methods with disciplinary specialization and how do you perform transdisciplinary research in difficult or polarized settings.
2. Visualize your Research
By Manon Lichtenberg, Studio Nons
Discover how to make research more impactful through the power of visuals. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to translate key scientific insights and results into simple, hand-drawn visuals. No drawing experience needed. Just curiosity and a willingness to try!
3. AI is here to stay – and is becoming part of your daily work!
By Sil Arts
Artificial intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept – it’s already integrated into many aspects of our lives, whether you’re enthusiastic or skeptical about it. In this interactive workshop, you’ll explore how systems like ChatGPT work, what a language model is, and when (and when NOT!) to use AI. By experimenting hands-on, you’ll get insights into how to apply AI thoughtfully and effectively within your own professional context.
4. Approaching citizen science from an ethical perspective
By Maria Siermann and Melanie Rietveld
This workshop discusses what citizen science is, why it is important, and what ethical aspects play a role in the design and implementation of citizen science projects. Using examples within public health, we will show an ethical framework for citizen science. Together we will explore a proposed citizen science project, where you will be encouraged to apply the ethical framework in an interactive discussion. The workshop thereby aims to guide critical reflection on (citizen) science and to provide relevant tools for considering the involvement of citizens in your own research projects.
5. Making it work together: inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration for the elderly care of tomorrow
By Quincy Merx, Bram de Boer, and Danae Smeets
In this interactive workshop, we will address the skills and competencies required for successful collaboration across disciplines, domains, and sectors. Using practical examples from two projects-focused on vibrant communities and entrepreneurship in elderly care-we will explore with participants how researchers, (health) professionals, policymakers, and other stakeholders can collaborate effectively. Together, we will reflect on what this demands in terms of attitude, communication, and division of roles, and how these competencies can be developed in both research and practice. Special attention will be given to the role of PhD candidates and their daily supervisors.
Disclaimer: the workshop titles above are preliminary and may be subject to change.
