Dr. P. Roelfsema, Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience of Brain Stimulation, Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience, Amsterdam

Pieter Roelfsema is professor in integrative neurophysiology at the VU Amsterdam and at the AUMC. After obtaining his MD in 1991 and his PhD in 1995 he started working at the Dutch Institute for Neuroscience (NIN) in 2002. He was the director of the NIN between 2007 and 2023. Prof. Roelfsema studies visual perception, plasticity, memory and consciousness in the visual system. He develops neurotechnology for visual prostheses for blind people. In 2019 he co-founded the start-up company Phosphoenix, aimed at developing a visual brain prosthesis for blind people.
