Location: The lecture will take place in MTR Greepzaal HOOFDGEBOUW_4.E2.020 (MUMC+)
How to get to the Greepzaal:

  • Take the elevator or stairs to level 4 (route 7 elevator H).
  • When you exit the elevator, you'll see the Greepzaal sign on the wall on your right. (arrow pointing left.) 
  • Walk a few meters in that direction, and halfway down the hallway, on your right, you'll find the  Greepzaal (sign on the ceiling).

About the Lecture:

Stan van Pelt (1978) was trained as a neuroscience researcher between 2002 and 2017, working at the Donders Institute in Nijmegen and later in Frankfurt. He subsequently transitioned into science journalism. From 2019 to 2022, he served as an editor at Vox, the university magazine in Nijmegen. He now works as a freelance journalist for outlets such as de Volkskrant and Vox.
In 2023, he published Hack je hersenen (Hack Your Brain), a book about contemporary brain research, followed in 2025 by Sloppy Science, which examines systemic problems in modern science. In this lecture, Stan will explore in greater depth the errors, lapses, and fraudulent practices that undermine science.
