Delft Design Dialogue: Design & Progress
Date: Thursday 12 Mar, 15:30 – 18:00
Location: IDE @ IDE Arena, Under the Platform in central hall, ID Kafee
At TU Delft we talk a lot about change, innovation, and the future. But to what end? Do we believe the new things we put out into the world contribute to something larger, like world progress? Is the world getting better, or just different? Does technological progress go hand in hand with moral, social, or cultural progress? If so, how? And if not, why do we do it?
These questions are at the heart of the new edition of the Delft Design Dialogues: Design and Progress. The IDE Research Council and the Delft Design Dialogues organisational team warmly invite you to take part in this conversation.
The session will open in the IDE Arena with a short, thought-provoking talk by Noortje Jacobs (EURMC, History & Medical Ethics), who will challenge familiar narratives of progress. After that, we’ll move to the Hall and the floor will be all yours. In two rounds of World Café–style small-group conversations, you’ll exchange perspectives with colleagues and refine your thinking around provocative statements related to Design & Progress. Afterwards, we encourage you to stay for drinks at the ID Kafee and continue the discussion with fellow participants and speakers.
Haven’t had the chance to participate in a Delft Design Dialogues yet? This IDE community event is designed to spark valuable reflection and connection. One participant described it as “an exciting way to engage with colleagues and to experience the different opinions and trends that emerge within the faculty”. We hope you can join the experience!

Synergy Week
This edition of Delft Design Dialogues is part of the Synergy Week programme for Master’s students. As a result, a limited number of places will be available for students. We hope you welcome this opportunity to engage with the IDE student community.
In addition, a special student edition of the Delft Design Dialogues on Design & AI will take place in the morning of 12 March as part of Synergy Week. During this session, students will formulate their own statements, which will then be discussed by a panel of design professionals with expertise in AI. You are warmly invited to attend this panel discussion, which will be held from 11:45 to 13:00 in the IDE Arena. Please let synergy-ide@tudelft.nl know of your attendance if you wish to receive an Outlook placeholder.
