Doing Interdisciplinarity in Youth Research

Date: April, 18, 2024
Time: 10.00 – 16.30 hours
Location: Van der Valk Hotel - Amstel

We conduct research for a better world for all youth: Infants, children, adolescents, and young adults alike. Interdisciplinarity in youth research ensures that new knowledge is not only discovered, but also effectively implemented, promoting real-world impact.

The Doing Interdisciplinarity in Youth Research Day “begins with me and ends with us”. Because interdisciplinarity done well is transformative for ourselves and our collaborations. As the Chinese proverb goes, we learn more by doing than by listening: When I hear it I forget it; When I see it I remember it; When I do it I know it.

Interdisciplinary research puts young people at the centre and requires that we first listen to many different voices and then combine them harmoniously. In other words, it means not just adding pieces together, but creating something new that has the power to change the way we think and do research. But like many things in life, interdisciplinarity is easier said than done.

The me-perspective: Because it takes courage to step out of your comfort zone and build interdisciplinary bridges, the first part of the programme challenges you to grow by exploring new horizons and personal skills.

The us-perspective: Because it takes skills to build sustainable and transformative collaborations, the second part of the programme will give you the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with tools for impactful collaboration.

Throughout the day, we will share inspiring stories of pioneering (inter)national partnerships that have successfully challenged existing systems and brought revolutionary insights to research and society.

Join us on a journey of discovery and change. Let's do interdisciplinary youth research together!
