About fPET2023

The conference brings together engineers and philosophers to address the challenges of engineering in a changing world. We are currently witnessing disruptive changes due to climate change, pandemics and war. Technological developments in, for example, geo-engineering, artificial intelligence, biotechnology and neuro-technology may contribute to such disruptions but also help to better deal with them.

fPET 2023 will provide the opportunity to meet like-minded researchers and present and discuss research on the intersection of engineering and philosophy, addressing the theme of technology and engineering in a changing world, broadly understood.

Special track: value change

The conference will feature a special track on Changing Values, Changing Technologies. This track will introduce a novel perspective on value change. We will discuss the nature of value change and illuminate the implications for the practice of, research on and teaching in engineering. For this track, we are cooperating with the research project Designing for Changing Values, that has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement No 788321.

 

What to expect

fPET 2023 will be a daring attempt to provide a forum to discuss engineering & philosophy in general, to meet and mingle, and to ignite the debate on a novel research perspective which draws from fields hitherto (largely) unconnected to the philosophy & engineering debate. It will also try out a new format and attempts to spur interdisciplinary collaboration.

 

Conference fee

The conference fee is 250 Euros; we offer 50% reduction for (graduate) students. The conference fee includes the conference dinner on 20 April.

Location and hotels
The conference will take place at X, a building on the TU Delft campus (see also the directions page). Since April is a busy period in the city, we strongly recommend to book a hotel as soon as possible. fPET has made the conscious decision to partner with Moonback, which is a fair booking site that has created a clear overview of hotels nearby the conference location.
