FRAMily 2025

13-14 May 2025 | Vakwerkhuis Delft NL | Hosted by TU Delft

About Panel

The Functional Resonance Analysis Method (FRAM) is a systemic approach to understanding complex socio-technical systems by modeling their functions, interactions, and variability. It highlights how everyday performance variability can combine to produce both successes and unexpected outcomes, moving beyond traditional failure-focused analyses.

FRAM Clinics | Bring Your Own Model, Bring Your Own Problem

The first FRAMily editions were mainly oranized as events where people discussed modelling challenges, ambiguities, and solutions with their fellow FRAM users. In 2025 the FRAM clinics are back under the motto 'BYOM, BYOP!' or in full: Bring Your Own Model, Bring Your Own Problem! FRAM issues discussed by FRAM users for FRAM users. A BYOM proposal template can be found here.

Serious Game workshop

FRAM is meant to model normal work in non-trivial socio-technical systems. It can be challenging to filter the essence of normal work from the background noise. To increase our understanding of our complex realities in a resource-efficient way, we will together explore the benefits of serious games in combination with FRAM's functional analysis by making abstraction of key characteristics of non-trivial socio-technical systems.

Safety-II and the variety of interpretations

The FRAM meeting will be closed by Anthony Smoker (Lund University) looking ahead at the variety of interpretations that have meanwhile emerged from Safety-II (the topic of a full separate S-II event starting the next day). We invite both FRAMily participants and early-arrived Safety-II attendees to discuss how the variety of Safety-II interpretations might also affect the use of FRAM. If you booked for the Safety-II-in-Practice workshop, you can attend this FRAMily session free of charge.

Present Your Abstract

There will be a possibility for participants to present their submitted abstract. Because this year we focus even more on interaction than previous years, their will only be a limited number of abstract presentation slots to allow more workshop sessions. In addition, we also encourage abstract submissions to propose an element of interaction with the audience. Find the abstract submission template here.

Why you should attend

This year’s sessions are designed to be highly interactive, ensuring that participants can engage in discussions, workshops, and hands-on activities. You’ll gain exclusive insights into the latest developments in FRAM, from innovative applications across industries to new features in FRAM software applications. Beyond the technical knowledge, this conference is a unique opportunity for community building, where professionals, researchers, and practitioners come together to share experiences, foster collaborations, and strengthen the global FRAM network. Regardless of whether you are an experienced user or whether you are new to the method, this event promises to inspire fresh ideas and deepen your understanding of how FRAM can transform the analysis of complex socio-technical systems.
