Our Summer School is led by experts from TU Delft’s Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, bringing together diverse expertise in sustainability, energy efficiency, and innovative approaches to the built environment. Dr. Queena K. Qian, Associate Professor, specializes in green building promotion, energy efficiency, and sustainable architecture. Her internationally recognized research bridges technical, economic, and behavioral perspectives to advance energy retrofits and sustainable development.
Dr. Ad Straub, Associate Professor, focuses on public procurement, asset management, and circular business models for sustainable transformation. His work emphasizes supply chain integration and innovative strategies for sustainability in construction.
Ragy Elgendy, PhD researcher, combines academic and professional experience in passive house design, adaptive reuse, and energy renovations. His research, part of the EU-funded CondoReno project, explores scalable renovation solutions for residential buildings across Europe.
Together, this team ensures a comprehensive and cutting-edge learning experience, empowering participants to drive sustainability in the built environment.

Policies and governance: Students will analyze how regulatory frameworks and governance structures at local, national, and European levels influence the energy transition, providing a foundation for creating feasible and JUST renovation strategies.

This theme will help students explore technological, business solutions and pathways for decarbonizing residential buildings, ensuring their projects align with Europe’s net-zero goals.
Circularity and Health
Students will integrate principles of circular economy and prioritize occupant well-being by selecting sustainable materials and designs that reduce waste and enhance indoor environmental quality.
Industrialisation and Digitalisation
By leveraging advancements in prefabrication, automation, and digital tools, students can propose efficient, scalable renovation solutions.
Housing Markets
Insights into housing market dynamics will allow students to tailor their projects to meet the needs of diverse stakeholders, including property owners, tenants, and investors

Understanding how behavioral patterns and decision-making processes affect renovation uptake will enable students to design projects that resonate with homeowners/tenants and encourage active participation.
