We read, hear and talk about Global Security all the time. Media keeps us busy with the news related to the national or international security. ‘Security’ is also a field of study. It investigates ways to make sense of and understand security politics, (in)security trends and issues of (in)security.

In this lecture series, the audience can expect some conceptual and thematic discussions about Global (In)Security. Our lecturer, Birsen Erdogan (sometimes alone, sometimes with her guests) will discuss several contemporary cases in every lecture where concepts and perspectives are applied to real.

The individual lectures
1. Global Security: What is it and How can we Understand it? Russian invasion of Ukraine and increasing insecurity in the western hemisphere (14 Sep)
2. What is and can be a Security Issue? Securitization of a pandemic and what’s next? (21 Sep)
3. Power Competition and Increasing Insecurity: China and the rising powers (28 Sep)
4. Is it all About Us? Planetary (in)security and the (missing) agency of the global south in international security (5 Oct)
5. Hyper-Security as Insecurity: surveillance, technology, risk and fear (and everyday) (12 Oct)
