Animal Welfare Assessments Workshop

This workshop will introduce participants to the science of animal welfare assessments. Participants will practice data collection techniques including behavioural observations and measurement of environmental parameters. Participants will also learn how to analyse and interpret their data, problem solve and prioritise actions. Participants will discuss the development of animal welfare committees and/or working groups within their own institutions and the operational considerations for assessments, depending on their purpose.

Included in the registration cost, participants will be enrolled in the EAZA Academy's e-course - Introduction to Animal Welfare Assessments, completion of which is a prerequisite for the in-person workshop. This will provide excellent foundation theory knowledge prior to the workshop, allowing for maximum practical application time when in person in Bristol.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the workshop participants will be able to:

1. Understand what Animal Welfare Assessments are, how they are constructed and how they can be used to improve animal welfare.
2. Apply an Animal Welfare Assessment effectively, including practical objective data collection.
3. Analyse the data within an Animal Welfare Assessment.
4. Evaluate the results of an Animal Welfare Assessment to determine validity and limitations of our understanding of the animal's welfare status.
5. Contribute to informed discussions of embedding Animal Welfare Assessments within an institutions procedures.

This workshop will be delivered in English.

EAZA Members: 350 EUR

Non-EAZA Members: 450 EUR

Registrations includes three workshop days, all equipment and resources including EAZA Academy's e-course, lunches and refreshments.

Cancellation Policy:

The followng cancellation policy applies to your registration:

• If you cancel your registration before 1 September (inclusive of) you will be charged 25% registration cost.
• If you cancel from 2 September to the 1 October (inclusive of) you will be charged 50% registration cost.
• If you cancel from 2 October (V(inclusive of) thereafter you will be charged 100% registration cost.
• Please note, if you opt to pay by invoice, you must ensure that the invoice is paid within the allowed time. Failure to do so risks your registration being cancelled and the above cancellation fees being applied.
