Introduction to Taxon Advisory Group (TAG) Course

The TAG Chairs course is meant as required fundamental training for TAG Chairs and TAG Vice Chairs. Existing TAG (Vice) Chairs are highly encouraged to attend as well. The aim of the course is to enable TAG (Vice) Chairs to run their TAG in a professional manner. During the course, the TAG chair’s responsibilities and working procedures are covered and tools are provided to run smooth TAG meetings, influence higher-level population management dynamics in an informed manner, resolve conflict and build relations with in-situ partners.


LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course you will:

  • Be familiar with the TAG Working procedures
  • Be aware of what is expected from you as TAG (Vice) Chair
  • Be aware of the practicalities of running a TAG
  • Be aware of the relevant standards, procedures and guidelines for population management within  EAZA
  • Know why and how to maintain a demographically and genetically healthy population, and less intensive/alternative population management strategies
  • Be aware of the responsibilities of the TAG (Vice) Chair in the RSP/LTMP process
  • Be aware of the responsibilities of the TAG in the production of Best Practise Guidelines
  • Be aware of the responsibilities of the TAG in the Conservation translocation process

COURSE ORGANISATION AND DURATION

The course will start at 9:00 on 15th of December 2026,  with two full days (15-16 of December) of learning. A more detailed programme can be found in the programme section. Both days will be in-person in the EAZA Executive Office, Amsterdam.


COURSE REQUIREMENTS

Participants from EAZA Member institutions must arrange for an EAZA Member Account at least one month before the course by completing this form.


FEES

EAZA members 270 € (VAT Exempt)
Non-EAZA members 320 € (VAT Exempt)
The course fee includes all course materials, lunches and refreshments and a certificate of completion.

EAZA Academy Cancellation Policy:

- If you cancel more than 4 weeks before the course starts no fees apply. 
- If you cancel less than 4 weeks before the course starts you will be charged 25% of the fees.  
- If you cancel less than 2 weeks before the course starts you will be charged 50% of the fees. 
- If you cancel less than 1 week before the course starts you will be charged 100% of the fees.

Participants are responsible for ensuring that the EAZA Academy confirms the cancellation for their course registration.
