As a participant, you will be staying at Castle Oud Poelgeest (see also Venue). Prior to the school, some information about the group will be shared, so that you may have the opportunity to travel to our location together with other participants.

Below you will find directions for different modes of travel. Whether you are arriving by train, plane, or bicycle, we have outlined the main routes to help you reach Landgoed Oud Poelgeest with ease.

 

Arrival by Bike 

 

 

Of course, we don’t expect international guests to bring their own bicycle 😉.

However, in the Netherlands the bicycle is the most typical way to get around in cities and towns. From Leiden Central Station, you can easily rent a bike, and in about 15 minutes you’ll reach Kasteel Oud-Poelgeest. This way, you can immediately experience a true piece of Dutch culture along the way!

Arrival by Plane

From Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, there are frequent direct trains that reach Leiden Central Station in just 15–20 minutes. Trains run several times per hour, making it the fastest and most convenient option.

Tickets

• Contactless payment 
  Since 2023, you can check in and out directly with your bank card, credit card, or phone (same principle as the OV-chipkaart).

Always check in and out!  

 

• Single-use tickets

Available at ticket machines in stations or in the NS app (as an e-ticket with a QR code).

Arrival by Train

Leiden is easily accessible by train. It has excellent connections with many other Dutch cities such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Utrecht. Via Amsterdam, Leiden is also connected to international train services (e.g. to Brussels, Paris, and Berlin), making it convenient for international travelers.

 

🚍 By bus

• Take bus 57 towards Noordwijk or bus 37 towards Katwijk.
• Get off at Endegeest stop.
• From there, it’s about a 5-minute walk to the castle.

⏱ Total travel time: approx. 15–20 minutes.

 

🚕 By taxi

• About 10 minutes’ drive from the station.
• Convenient if you have luggage or are traveling with several people.
